The hibiscus was officially designated Hawaiʻi’s state flower in 1988, chosen in part to recognize maʻo hau hele (Hibiscus brackenridgei), a native species found only in Hawaiʻi. Long before that designation, however, hibiscus imagery was already deeply embedded in Hawaiʻi’s visual culture, with its bold, vivid forms appearing widely across textiles and home goods by the mid-20th century.
Our Chunky Hibiscus art print began as a pencil sketch in the 90s, drawn during the years we grew up surrounded by oversized, graphic hibiscus patterns. Recently revisited and brought to life, it retains the nostalgic quality of childhood imagery.
Each print is produced in Hawaiʻi by a locally owned small printer. Wall art is packed and shipped separately from the rest of your order and may take up to two weeks to process and deliver.
